Hanwha Total Wraps Up 'Ecodeohagi' Environmental Campaign

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Soyeon] Hanwha Total raised awareness among children and adolescents about the importance of plastic waste separation and resource circulation through non-face-to-face social contribution activities during a period when the use of disposable products is increasing due to the spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).

Hanwha Total announced on the 18th that it successfully completed the "Eco Addition Resource Circulation Campaign," which was conducted for about 40 days starting from September 6th in collaboration with the Green Umbrella Children’s Foundation.

The "Eco Addition Resource Circulation Campaign" is Hanwha Total’s representative eco-friendly social contribution activity that enhances children’s and adolescents’ understanding of petrochemical products and fosters habits of separating waste for plastic recycling.

This year’s campaign, considering the difficulty of employees directly participating in on-site environmental education due to the spread of COVID-19, was conducted through online education via videos, along with a "Resource Circulation Slogan Contest" and an awards ceremony held non-face-to-face.

In particular, the contest, which invited slogans of about 20 characters expressing the importance of waste separation and commitment to resource circulation, saw participation from approximately 1,000 elementary, middle, and high school students nationwide, showcasing a variety of slogan ideas.

Additionally, a comment event targeting the general public attracted a total of 2,589 participants, and the educational animation and promotional videos produced for the contest recorded a total of 100,000 views on YouTube, demonstrating high interest in this contest.

Kim Woojin, CEO of the environmental education organization "Jigureul Wihan Design" (Design for the Earth), who participated as an advisor for this contest, said, “Although the campaign was conducted non-face-to-face due to COVID-19, it was a more meaningful campaign because we were able to convey to growing children the role of plastic and our responsibility.” He added, “I feel grateful that a company like Hanwha Total, which produces plastic raw materials, recognized environmental issues first and carried out activities to improve them.”
