CGV Movie Ticket Prices Increase from the 26th... Weekend Tickets 13,000 Won

Measures Taken Due to Fixed Cost Burden and Sharp Sales Decline
"Can Bring Stabilization to the Entire Film Industry"

CJ CGV will raise movie ticket prices starting from the 26th. This decision was made due to increased fixed costs and prolonged difficulties caused by the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). On the 18th, CGV explained, "Fixed costs such as theater rent, maintenance fees, and labor costs are increasing every year. With the sharp decline in sales due to the spread of COVID-19 and the additional burden of quarantine expenses, a price increase is inevitable."

In fact, the number of moviegoers visiting theaters this year (as of last month) has decreased by about 70% compared to last year. The postponement of the release of anticipated films and the resulting avoidance of theater visits have pushed the entire cinema industry to the brink of collapse. CGV stated, "Due to the revenue structure where theater sales are distributed across the entire film industry, the sharp decline in sales inevitably affects all areas including film investment, production, and distribution." They added, "This price increase will lead to an increase in the fees distributed to the film industry, which can bring stabilization to the overall film industry."

The increased general 2D movie ticket prices will be 12,000 KRW on weekdays (Monday to Thursday) after 1 PM, and 13,000 KRW on weekends (Friday to Sunday). The differentiated seat pricing system, which was divided into Economy, Standard, and Prime, will be abolished. However, considering customer convenience, the front seats in rows A and B will be discounted by 1,000 KRW. The time slots will be simplified into three stages (Morning, Brunch, General) for intuitive customer understanding. Special theater fees will also be adjusted. 4DX and IMAX ticket prices will increase, while Cine & Living Room ticket prices will decrease. Prices for ScreenX, Cine & Foret, Cine de Chef, and Gold Class will remain the same. Preferential rates for seniors aged 65 and over, persons with disabilities, and national merit recipients will also be maintained at the existing prices.
