"Shall We Make a Running Game with Pengsoo?" Online Coding Party Season 2 Starts Tomorrow

[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgina Jo] The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 18th that the '2020 Online Coding Party Season 2' will be held from the 19th to November 1st. The Online Coding Party is an online experience event where participants can easily and enjoyably learn the principles of software and artificial intelligence creation like a game, and improve their computational thinking skills. It is hosted by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Ministry of Education, and organized by the Korea Foundation for the Advancement of Science and Creativity.

This ‘2020 Online Coding Party Season 2’ has doubled the number of programs (19) compared to Season 1 (9), thanks to the active participation of seven specialized software institutions, to accommodate students spending more time at home. By accessing the Online Coding Party on the Software-Centered Society Portal (www.software.kr), participants can experience a variety of 19 programs across five categories: ▲block coding, ▲text coding, ▲computational thinking, ▲artificial intelligence, and ▲others.

A notable new program is ‘Startup Creation,’ which allows participants to experience entrepreneurship through coding. This is a coding collaboration project where friends share ideas and jointly create software, helping to develop not only coding skills but also collaboration abilities and entrepreneurial spirit.

The block coding category consists of seven programs suitable for all ages up to upper elementary school students. Participants can engage with coding tasks alongside familiar characters such as Geobukseon, Pengsoo, and Ttuang. For example, creating a personalized running game with Pengsoo and learning basic block coding concepts by navigating paths with Ttuang.

The text coding category is suitable for upper elementary students interested in computer languages. Participants can enjoy game development and escape room challenges while using computer languages. The computational thinking category offers a range of programs from measuring one’s own computational thinking skills to experiencing the international computational thinking competition, the Beaver Challenge, and courses for middle school students and above to learn computational thinking.

Additionally, the artificial intelligence category provides tasks suitable for upper elementary students as well as advanced AI algorithm experience programs for intermediate learners who have already studied Python, arranged progressively.

Moreover, ‘2020 Online Coding Party Season 2’ participants can join the ‘Coding Party Flex!’ and ‘Coding Party High Five!’ events. Participants who upload two or more certificates issued upon completing each mission of the online coding party program to their personal SNS for verification (Coding Party Flex!), or respond to the online coding party survey (Coding Party High Five!), will be entered into a draw to win prizes.

Song Kyung-hee, Director of Software Policy at the Ministry of Science and ICT, stated, “The Online Coding Party is an event composed of diverse and substantial programs that allow anyone to easily and enjoyably become familiar with software and artificial intelligence,” adding, “We will continue to develop the ‘Online Coding Party’ by discovering new programs in the future.”
