If the trend of decreasing by an average of 69 people per month from January to September this year continues, the population is expected to fall below 50,000 by the end of this month. This means that after the population fell below 60,000 in 2005, it will fall below 50,000 for the first time in 15 years.

According to the Wando-gun Statistical Yearbook and the Wando-gun Chronicle (published in 2010), the population peaked at 146,743 in 1974, then continuously decreased from 141,074 in 1975, reaching 50,065 in 2020, a total decrease of 124,230 over 80 years.
