[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Naju City, Jeollanam-do, is taking full-scale steps to promote leading policy tasks to leap forward as the central city of Honam.

On the 19th, Naju City announced that it will officially launch the 'Public-Private Joint Committee' with an open policy governance structure for the successful promotion of leading policy tasks at 11 a.m. on the 20th in the city hall's main conference room.

The 'Public-Private Joint Committee' launched on this day will serve as the control tower for promoting leading policy tasks and is composed of 51 distinguished figures, including academic experts by task, researchers, former university presidents and professors, public institutions, and social organizations.

Centered on the 'Public-Private Joint Committee,' the plan is to divide into a policy advisory group, subcommittees, and a policy promotion team to foster open policy governance for the successful implementation of tasks.

Naju City appointed Mayor Kang In-gyu of Naju and Professor Emeritus Jang Hee-cheon of Gwangju University as standing chairpersons.

The ten co-chairpersons include ▲Jeon Seung-su, Professor Emeritus at Chonnam National University ▲Choi Song-chun, Co-chair of Mokpo Environmental Movement Federation ▲Chae Jeong-gi, Standing Chair of Mudeungsan Protection Organizations Council ▲Seo Jae-cheol, Full-time Specialist at Green Union ▲Seo Wang-jin, Director of Seoul Institute ▲Yang Bok-wan, Invited Professor at Chonnam National University ▲Jung Jae-su, Invited Professor at Honam University ▲Lim Young-jin, Director of Mahan Research Institute ▲Park Joong-hwan, Former Director of National Naju Museum.

The policy advisory group, which performs policy advice and conflict mediation roles for leading policy promotion, appointed 32 experts in various fields, including the 10 co-chairpersons.

The leading policy tasks, reflecting the vision of Mayor Kang In-gyu’s second half of the 7th term, are a city administration project that identifies regional issues that Naju must solve for regional integration and sustainable development as policy tasks.

This project consists of five mid- to long-term policy projects: ▲Establishment of a comprehensive plan for ecological restoration of the Yeongsan River ▲Upgrade of Geumseongsan to a provincial park and relocation of military units ▲Construction of a metropolitan railway network between Gwangju and Naju (Mokpo) ▲Relocation of LG Chem Naju Plant within the jurisdiction and creation of an administrative complex town ▲Restoration of Mahan Temple and designation as a historical and cultural city.

The ambition is to solve fundamental issues that have long been neglected across Naju’s history, culture, nature and ecology, and industry and economy sectors, and to create future growth engines.

In particular, the ecological comprehensive plan for the Yeongsan River, the construction of the metropolitan railway network between Gwangju and Naju, and the restoration of Mahan Temple are planned to secure momentum through adoption as national agenda items in the next presidential election.

Mayor Kang In-gyu of Naju said, “The leading policy tasks are issues that must be resolved for an era of openness, integration, leap, and happiness in Naju, and have now been put on track through the launch of the Public-Private Joint Committee. Rather than short-term results, we will do our best in communication and governance so that each policy task can blossom and bear fruit with a long-term perspective.”
