[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Eun-young] Jeong Seong-ho, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea known as a representative 'pro-Lee Jae-myung faction,' directly refuted Kim Jong-in, the emergency committee chairman of the People Power Party, who criticized Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung as "impulsive."
On the 17th, Rep. Jeong said on his Facebook, "I don't know on what grounds they say Governor Lee has acted impulsively many times," adding, "The Lee Jae-myung I know is not an impulsive person but a very realistic and rational person."
He continued, "Yesterday, Governor Lee apologized, blaming himself for not reconciling with his late younger brother," and said, "It seems they are judging that Governor Lee has acted impulsively many times based on one incident that happened spontaneously in an unfortunate family relationship. Governor Lee is like a human victory who has overcome the most difficult environment among all the people I know," praising him.
Rep. Jeong is a leading figure of the 'pro-Lee Jae-myung faction' who also worked together in Lee's 2017 presidential campaign. He is also a classmate of Lee from the 18th Judicial Research and Training Institute.
Earlier, Chairman Kim evaluated Governor Lee through a media outlet, saying, "He (Governor Lee) often acts impulsively."
Chairman Kim pointed out, "Because he often acts impulsively, there are aspects where he can appeal, but people who think coldly worry whether someone with such a personality can become president."
Rep. Jeong's rebuttal appears to be a criticism of this.
Rep. Jeong said, "It does not look good to judge others with shallow knowledge," adding, "For those who have not been angry at injustice and have not resisted illegal and unfair power, Lee Jae-myung, who throws himself into shouting for fairness and justice and fights, may seem very unfamiliar, awkward, and impulsive, but most people who know Lee Jae-myung know how just, down-to-earth, unpretentious, and rational he is."
Meanwhile, on the 16th, Governor Lee was sentenced to disqualification from election in the appellate court on charges of false statement related to the forced hospitalization of his older brother but later received a Supreme Court ruling acquitting him. Afterwards, through his Facebook, he apologized, saying, "I regret that I could not reconcile with you while you were alive. Please forgive your unworthy younger brother."
