A World Addicted to 'Likes', the Play Inssaide (人-cide)

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Byung-hee] The theater company Dalpaengi Jupasu will perform the play "Inssaide (人-cide, directed by Lee Won-jae)" from October 21 to November 8 at Daehakro Theater Kum.

The title "Inssaide" is a word recombining human (人) and cide (killing), representing character assassination and the killing of humanity. It depicts a world thirsty for attention. A world where the word "like" is desperate. It tells the story of today's society obsessed with others' attention and recognition. Bright-eum, a 17-year-old high school girl, suddenly commits suicide, and broadcast reporter Jae-shin suspects the school is hiding something and investigates Bright-eum's death.

The theater company introduced the work as one that explores what humanity is and how that humanity can be killed through the process of delving into a girl's death.

Director Lee Won-jae said, "The word 'gwanjong' (attention seeker) now seems to be acknowledged by the majority as something they identify with. People naturally accept the gap between the self they want to show on social media and their real self. However, through this play, I want to talk about how dangerous it is to exist relying solely on others' attention and recognition."

Following last year's performance, actor Kim Min-kyung, who is active in both drama and film, will appear again in this performance. In addition, Gong Chan-ho, Kim Yeon-cheol, Choi Jeong-hwa, as well as Lee Yoon-soo, Song Seo-rin, Kang Il-kyung, Lim Jun-ho, Jung In-ji, and Kim Jun-pyo will appear as double casts.

Dalpaengi Jupasu is presenting the "Gray Human Project," which was selected for the Korea Arts & Culture Education Service's mid- to long-term creative support project last year, and "Inssaide" is the third work in this series. This performance was prepared after being selected for the "Playticket 2020 Performing Arts Branding Project," which aims to revitalize small theater performances and enhance the brand value of artists and performance groups.
