[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyo-jin] The Korea Journalists Association and the Korea Photojournalists Association issued a joint statement on the 16th condemning Minister of Justice Chu Mi-ae for revealing the face of a photojournalist who was reporting in front of her residence.
In the statement, they criticized, "We cannot contain our anger at the act of infringing on the public's right to know and the constitutionally guaranteed 'freedom of the press' through so-called 'targeting' of journalists."
They also stated, "The reporter in question was waiting in front of the residence to cover Minister Chu's expression on her way to work while riding in an official vehicle, and there was no reporting at the front door as Minister Chu mentioned."
Furthermore, regarding Minister Chu's claim that "despite sending an official letter, the media continues to stalk," they rebutted, "We never received any official letter. We only sent text messages to accredited reporters requesting cooperation with the coverage."
The associations demanded that Minister Chu refrain from restricting press coverage, publicly apologize for the 'targeting,' delete the related post, and personally apologize to the reporter who is suffering from the 'targeting.'
