Manhae Han Yong-un Simwoojang Visited Online

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) and Korea Heritage Center (CEO Kim Hye-ri) have joined hands to conduct the 'Simwoo Atelier ? Simsim心心 Interpretation Exhibition' utilizing Manhae Han Yong-un's Simwoojang (Historic Site No. 550).

'Simwoo Atelier ? Simsim心心 Interpretation Exhibition' is part of the 2020 Saengsaeng Cultural Heritage Project sponsored by the Cultural Heritage Administration, and it is the first project conducted since Simwoojang was designated as a nationally designated historic site in 2019.

Simwoojang was the residence of Manhae Han Yong-un from 1933 to 1944. It is famously known that Manhae refused to build the house facing south towards the Japanese Government-General of Korea and instead built it facing north.

The name ‘Simwoo’ is derived from a Buddhist folktale that compares the process of seeking enlightenment through practice to the act of searching for an ox.

'Simwoo Atelier ? Simsim心心 Interpretation Exhibition' is planned to help understand Simwoojang, a major cultural heritage of Seongbuk, through diverse stories centered on Manhae Han Yong-un who lived in Simwoojang, the independence movement, modern Seongbuk-dong, and cultural arts. It has been released since October on the YouTube channel ‘Korea Heritage Center’.

The first program, 'Simsim心心 Interpretation Exhibition,' is a special video that contains stories of the modern cultural heritage Simwoojang and the history and culture of Seongbuk-gu. It is a non-face-to-face special video exhibition designed so that anyone can enjoy the important cultural heritage Simwoojang and the history and modern cultural arts of Seongbuk-gu regardless of location.

The second program, 'Simwoojang History Drawing the Past,' is a non-face-to-face cultural heritage experience program where participants can learn about the era and history of the cultural heritage through videos about Simwoojang and Manhae Han Yong-un’s life and his work 'The Silence of the Beloved,' and also experience healing art through a kit.

Lee Seung-ro, Mayor of Seongbuk-gu, stated, “Recently, as the whole nation unites to protect the Berlin Peace Statue of a Girl, the spirit of Han Yong-un, who emphasized world peace through the independence movement and literature, will resonate even more deeply.” He added, “Since we have prepared a program that allows people to access Manhae’s spirit and activities without being restricted by place or space, we ask for much interest and participation.”

For more detailed inquiries about the program, please contact the Korea Heritage Center by phone or visit their website.
