[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Juhyung] The police plan to launch an investigation into YouTuber 'Jeong Baewoo' (real name Jeong Yongjae), who sparked controversy by leaking nude photos presumed to be victims of so-called 'bodycam phishing.'
According to multiple media reports on the 15th, several complaints were filed on the same day claiming that Jeong defamed Instructor A, who appears on the YouTube show 'Fake Men 2,' by publicly revealing illegally filmed victim photos on his broadcast. The police are set to investigate the case soon.
Earlier, on the 14th, Jeong revealed a photo during his YouTube live broadcast, stating, "Instructor A was a victim of bodycam phishing in the past." Bodycam refers to sexual acts performed via chat sites or applications, and recording such acts to threaten victims is called bodycam phishing.
In the broadcast, Jeong claimed, "I consulted with a lawyer before releasing the photo," and added, "Since the photo was already leaked on the internet, it was okay to show it on the broadcast."
However, as criticism grew that this constituted 'secondary harm and invasion of privacy,' Jeong eventually apologized, saying, "I sincerely apologize for my poor judgment."
Meanwhile, on the 15th, Instructor A posted a statement on his YouTube community channel, saying, "Due to the numerous malicious comments stemming from Jeong Baewoo's irresponsible broadcast, my pregnant wife is suffering so much stress that she is showing signs of a miscarriage." He added, "Jeong Baewoo obtained the video and broadcast it to a large audience with the intent to defame me, damaging my reputation, and also possessed and distributed photos."
He further emphasized, "Those who irresponsibly defame others for their own benefit will be held legally accountable," and stated, "I will strictly pursue civil and criminal liability for Jeong Baewoo's actions."
