Establishment of Mathematics Culture Center, Experience Center, and Maker Education Center by 2024
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongwook Park] The Gyeongbuk Provincial Office of Education announced on the 15th that it has established a comprehensive plan for science, mathematics, information, and convergence education to cultivate talents equipped with the literacy of the intelligent information society.
The Office of Education plans to build a Mathematics Culture Center, Experience Center, and Maker Education Center by 2024, while expanding safety equipment and facilities in intelligent science labs based on advanced science and technology, and creating intelligent transformation classrooms and convergence spaces within schools.
The comprehensive plan also includes strengthening mathematics and science education, which form the foundation of information and convergence education, by actively introducing cutting-edge science technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR·AR) into the educational field. In particular, to establish a Gyeongbuk-type remote learning system, laptops will be provided to all teachers, and teacher training to enhance remote teaching capabilities, including content production, will be expanded.
Furthermore, opportunities for creative convergence education will be expanded for socially vulnerable groups such as students in island and remote areas and students who have dropped out of school. Initiatives include camp-style science experience programs for students in island and remote areas, introduction of online mentoring, development and operation of customized science experience programs, opening of online math clinics, operation of regional visiting math sharing festivals, distribution of smart devices to students in small rural schools, and introduction of mobile maker education vehicles.
Superintendent Lim Jong-sik stated, "In the near future, the extent to which a country secures outstanding talents in advanced science and technology fields will be a measure of national power," adding, "We will strengthen basic literacy education so that all students in the region can adapt well to the rapidly changing future society, while also focusing on nurturing talents in new science and technology fields."
