[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Seul-gi] A stepfather who secretly installed a cellphone inside a sunflower decoration placed in the bathroom and other areas of the house to spy on his two daughters was caught by the police.
According to an MBC report on the 14th, a report was received in August that a cellphone was hidden inside a sunflower decoration in a home in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province.
The cellphone installed inside the sunflower had a closed-circuit television (CCTV) application installed and was even connected to a portable battery. The CCTV app was filming the shower room in real time.
Similarly, cameras were hidden in the living room and in the room of the younger sister B (22).
The reporter was the older sister A (24), one of the sisters in their 20s living in the house, who discovered a shiny object in the corner of the bathroom shelf’s sunflower artificial flower and upon checking, found a cellphone attached to the artificial flower.
As a result of the police investigation after the report, the perpetrator who illegally filmed the daughters was identified as the 40-year-old stepfather C (41), who had lived with them for 10 years.
According to the investigation, C had been illegally filming the two daughters for about six months since February.
During the police investigation, C reportedly stated, "I usually did not get along well with the older daughter. I installed the camera to check in advance whether the older daughter was home before entering the house."
However, the Ansan Sangnok Police Station in Gyeonggi Province, which conducted the investigation, judged that the credibility of the statement was low since the stepfather had installed illegal filming devices in the bathroom and the younger daughter’s room as well, and sent the case to the prosecution last month with a recommendation for indictment.
The daughters are reported to want strong punishment for their stepfather C.
