'놀면 뭐하니? 한 번 더 민주!'...The 3rd Gangdong-gu Youth Democracy Festival

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gangdong-gu (Mayor Lee Jeong-hoon) will hold the 3rd Youth Democracy Festival "What Are You Doing Playing? One More Democracy!" on the 17th, meeting online.

The Gangdong-gu Youth Democracy Festival is a festival "by youth, for youth, and of youth" that guarantees participation rights and provides democracy experience to children and adolescents. It was first held in Korea in October 2018 and is now in its third year.

This year, in line with the COVID-19 era, the festival will be held online to allow many youths to participate.

For this festival, the Youth Council participated from the planning stage to actively reflect youth opinions, adopting the slogan "What Are You Doing Playing? One More Democracy!" and organizing various programs preferred by youths.

The festival will be broadcast live on Gangdong-gu Office's YouTube channel from 10 a.m. on the 17th. Before the main festival, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., the 4th Youth Council will hold an "Online Open Council," providing a time to freely express opinions on youth policies and propose related projects and measures.

From 1 p.m., the first part of the festival will begin with a congratulatory performance by the Byeolbit Sori Musical Group, followed by a lively live quiz show that makes democracy easy and fun to understand. In the second part, the free speech platform "Show Your Voice," where youths can freely express desired policies and stories through real-time chat, will continue.

The third part will feature a talk concert on topics of interest to youths such as "COVID-19, part-time jobs, smartphones," allowing for the collection of diverse youth opinions. The festival will conclude with a happiness writing contest and dance performances by youth clubs.

Additionally, home-based kit experience programs such as mask strap making and dried flower crafts, which can be easily enjoyed at home, and real-time chat participation events will be held to further enhance the fun of the online festival.

Moreover, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the same day, the 5th Gangdong-gu Youth Council member election mobile voting will be conducted simultaneously, with time allocated during the festival to check candidates' pledges.

Lee Jeong-hoon, Mayor of Gangdong-gu, stated, "This Youth Democracy Festival is being held in a new form online," and added, "We will continue to provide opportunities for youths to grow as healthy democratic citizens and support incorporating their voices into policies without hesitation."
