Seoul City to Train Video Content Production Experts for Visually and Hearing Impaired

[Asia Economy Reporter Jo In-kyung] Seoul City is holding a graduation ceremony on the 14th at Dongguk University Ice Space for the first 21 graduates of the 'Barrier-Free Video Production Professional Training' program, which started this year.

Barrier-free videos refer to videos produced by adding audio descriptions that explain the screen in voice and Korean subtitles that provide information on speakers, dialogues, music, and sounds to existing videos, making them accessible to everyone, including people with visual and hearing impairments.

This barrier-free video production professional training was conducted in a way that producers who own self-developed video content such as animations and films create barrier-free versions of their videos so that people with visual and hearing impairments can watch them. The training course consisted of ▲ experiencing barrier-free video content ▲ lectures on barrier-free films from people with visual and hearing impairments ▲ professional lectures on basics of audio description and subtitle production, as well as practical production such as narration recording and mixing.

During the four-week training period, a total of six videos, including the animation "Linda's Amazing Journey: Pilot Episode," were produced in barrier-free versions. These videos will be screened at the "10th Seoul Barrier-Free Film Festival (Korean Movie Database KMDb online channel)" held from next month 11th to December 1st.

Han Jeong-hoon, Head of Seoul City's Industrial Hub Activation Division, said, "I hope this training will be an opportunity for video producers to understand the importance and necessity of barrier-free content, as well as a chance to improve awareness of disabilities and create an environment for producing diverse content for culturally marginalized groups."
