Human Rights Commission Begins Investigation into Lawmaker Kim Yong-min's Defamation Lawsuit Against Jin Joong-kwon

[Asia Economy Reporter Donghoon Jeong] The National Human Rights Commission has launched an investigation into Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Yong-min, who filed a civil lawsuit against former Dongyang University professor Jin Joong-kwon for using the expression 'Jo Guk ddolmani' (Jo Guk's lackey).

The "Action Alliance for Establishing the Rule of Law (Beopse-ryeon)" announced on the 13th that "the case regarding lawmaker Kim Yong-min's complaint to the Human Rights Commission has been assigned to the responsible investigator." Beopse-ryeon filed a complaint on the 9th of this month, arguing that Kim's lawsuit against former professor Jin constitutes "a violation of freedom of expression and personal rights," urging Kim to halt the lawsuit and calling for measures to prevent recurrence.

In June, former professor Jin criticized Kim Yong-min on Facebook by posting a link to an article containing Kim's statement calling Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl "the worst prosecutor general in history," adding, "As expected of Jo Guk ddolmani." Kim then filed a defamation lawsuit seeking damages against former professor Jin.
