[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Choi Hyun-joo] The future vision of Masan Marine New City, which Changwon City in Gyeongnam is meticulously developing, has begun to take shape.
According to Changwon City on the 13th, of the total area of 642,167㎡, 32%, or 203,119㎡, will be developed through a complex development public offering method to attract private capital. The remaining 68%, or 439,048㎡, will be promoted as a public sector based on citizens' opinions.
The city has set the development direction of Masan Marine New City with the goal and vision of a "world-class emotional city based on smart technology," and as a promotion strategy for this, it has established ▲ Smart spaces ▲ Nature-friendly and sustainable spaces.
First, the "smart space" is the area for attracting private capital. The site of 203,119㎡ will attract domestic and foreign private capital through a complex development public offering, and it is planned to be developed into a cultural marine city with night views and landscapes comparable to those of Hong Kong or Singapore.
For the "nature-friendly and sustainable space with public nature," eco-friendly facilities such as parks, green spaces, and gardens preferred by citizens, as well as impressive contents like Flower Island, will be integrated to create an eco-friendly tourism hub.
In particular, considering rapid social changes such as the 4th Industrial Revolution, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and the Internet of Things (IoT), the city is gradually promoting smart projects according to mid- to long-term plans. In the future, the marine new city will realize a smart city through the installation of smart infrastructure such as IoT networks, Wi-Fi networks, and information and communication self-networks.
According to the development direction announced this time, Changwon City plans to select private business operators through a public offering by early next year for the smart space and conclude an implementation agreement through detailed negotiations. From the first half of 2022, substantial civil engineering work will begin on the public sector, and from the second half, the upper building construction will commence.
Mayor Heo Seong-mu of Changwon emphasized, "Rather than hastily filling the project to achieve visible results within my term, I will proceed carefully with a view to the more distant future," and added, "Through the successful development of Masan Marine New City, we will lead Changwon City's economic vitality and innovative growth to enhance global urban competitiveness."
