Police University Institute of Security Policy, Hosts Academic Webinar on 'Post-Corona' Security Activities

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-ju] The Police University Institute of Police Policy Research announced on the 13th that it will hold an academic webinar titled "Post-COVID-19, Social Changes and Directions of Police Activities" in celebration of its 40th anniversary.

The two-day seminar, held from the 13th to the 14th, was organized to analyze the rapid changes in the policing environment caused by the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) and to establish the future directions of police activities in the "post-COVID" era. The seminar will be broadcast live on YouTube.

On the first day of the seminar, presentations will cover ▲ changes in Korea's policing environment before and after COVID-19 ▲ protection of socially vulnerable groups by the police in the era of disaster inequality. On the second day, discussions will focus on ▲ tracking information on cybercrime activities such as fraudulent transactions of virtual assets ▲ application of self-sovereign identity DID (Decentralized ID) for evidence management.

Kim Chang-ryong, Commissioner of the National Police Agency, stated, "The hyperconnected society brought about by the digital technological revolution paradoxically becomes a channel for spreading risk factors," adding, "Especially after experiencing the COVID-19 crisis, public awareness of safety has increased, demanding a more proactive role from the police." He urged for proactive responses to risk factors.
