Golf Wear Sales for Ages 20-30 Increase by 26.9% from January to September
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] Shinsegae Department Store's golf sales continue to soar.
According to Shinsegae Department Store on the 13th, golf shop and golf wear sales in September increased by 39.7% and 30.2%, respectively, compared to the same period last year.
The growth in golf wear sales was mainly driven by purchases from the younger generation. Analyzing golf wear sales from January to September this year, the growth rate for customers in their 30s was the highest at 21.1%. Adding the growth rate of the 20s and 30s age groups, it reaches 26.9%, which is 0.9 percentage points higher than the 26.0% growth rate of the 40s and 50s age groups.
Last month, Shinsegae Department Store also launched the industry's first apparel select shop for female golfers called ‘Style Golf’. It is currently available on the online mall SSG.com, with plans to expand to offline stores in the future.
Style Golf is centered on trendy casual golf wear. It brings together domestic emerging designer golf apparel brands and overseas brands that have not been available at department stores before. Representative brands include ‘GoXO’, operated by influencer and former professional golfer Lee Su-jin, ‘JJane’, known for its lovely golf wear, ‘Clove’, casual life wear inspired by golf and tennis, and ‘MyColorIs’, which adds delicate French-style sensibility.
The price range is also relatively reasonable. Women's golf T-shirts are priced between 50,000 and 120,000 KRW, and golf skirts range from 70,000 to 120,000 KRW. Style Golf, which marked its one-month anniversary, is sailing smoothly, exceeding its sales target by 60%. Next year, a men's line will also be sold.
Choi Moon-yeol, Executive Director in charge of fashion at Shinsegae Department Store, said, “Through the golf apparel select shop, we aim to attract young golfers while lowering the threshold of the department store and securing potential VIPs. As the age of golf enthusiasts is getting younger, we will also introduce various marketing strategies for young customers.”
