COVID-19 Vaccine Development Funding
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daeseop] The Small and Medium Business Love Sharing Foundation announced on the 12th that it has donated 20 million won collected from the small and medium business sector to the International Vaccine Institute.
This donation is planned to be used for the development of a novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) vaccine. The International Vaccine Institute is an international organization headquartered in the Republic of Korea. It contributes to improving public health by developing various vaccines related to respiratory infections, measles, and distributing them to developing countries and regions in Africa.
The Small and Medium Business Love Sharing Foundation is a public interest foundation established by the Korea Federation of SMEs. It was founded in 2012 to expand social contribution activities in the small and medium business sector.
Son In-guk, chairman of the Small and Medium Business Love Sharing Foundation, said, "We hope that the amount collected from the small and medium business sector will serve as a seed for preventing infectious diseases," and added, "We hope the day will come soon when we can take off our masks and share stories of hope."
Jerome Kim, Director General of the International Vaccine Institute, said, "A safe and effective COVID-19 vaccine will become a public good for humanity," and added, "The International Vaccine Institute will do its best to ensure that safe vaccines are supplied worldwide in cooperation with domestic and global partner organizations."
