Bucheon City Delivers 'Lunch Boxes' to Elementary Children of Dual-Income and Single-Parent Families

Specialized Support Project for Work-Life Balance of Working Parents
First 50 Applicants Accepted... Up to 10 Sessions Available Starting from the 19th of Next Month

Bucheon City Delivers 'Lunch Boxes' to Elementary Children of Dual-Income and Single-Parent Families Bucheon City Hall

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Bucheon City in Gyeonggi Province delivers lunch meals to elementary school children from dual-income and single-parent families who are not attending school due to the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) situation.

On the 12th, the city announced that it will operate the second phase of the "Visiting Work-Life Balance Lunchbox" project to alleviate the childcare burden on working parents as the school closure period prolongs.

The "Visiting Work-Life Balance Lunchbox" is a Bucheon-special pilot project promoted as part of the Gyeonggi-do Work-Life Balance Regional Specialization Project to support working parents' work-life balance.

Applicants must be working parents (dual-income or single-parent families) with elementary school children. The number of participants is limited to 50 on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications can be downloaded from the Bucheon City Women's Center website and submitted along with supporting documents.

If selected, participants will receive up to 10 lunchboxes from the 19th of this month until the 30th of next month. Support is available for up to two children if there are two or more elementary school children.

According to a satisfaction survey of families participating in the first "Visiting Work-Life Balance Lunchbox" project conducted during the summer vacation in August, 81% were "very satisfied" and 19% were "satisfied," indicating full satisfaction among participating families.

Working parents who participated expressed satisfaction, saying they were able to focus on work with peace of mind during the 10 days the lunchboxes were delivered. This was because there had been significant concerns about meal skipping, nutritional imbalance, and safety accidents for elementary children left alone at home due to school attendance restrictions caused by COVID-19.

Bucheon City is promoting various projects to support the work-life balance of working women, working moms, and working dads facing difficulties due to the prolonged COVID-19 situation, including Work-Life Balance Home Party Boxes, Visiting Work-Life Balance Dinner Parties, Emotional and Care Worker Mental Health Kits, and online festivals accessible via mobile phones.

Additionally, a non-face-to-face Work-Life Balance Festival is scheduled to be held from the 20th of this month to the 6th of next month.
