[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Jiwon] Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) has launched the development of a web-based platform to strengthen construction site management using drones.
On the 12th, LH announced that it has begun building the "LH DroneWorks Platform" to realize "Smart Construction Site Management," one of the key projects selected among public institutions for the Korean New Deal initiative.
Since 2018, LH has introduced 25 domestically produced drones for construction site video shooting and data analysis. Since then, it has continuously strengthened practical utilization by improving drone performance and reorganizing the operating organization.
The newly developed "DroneWorks Platform" is an extension of these efforts. By establishing a web-based platform and mobile services that can efficiently utilize and manage drone footage, construction sites will be managed more systematically and smartly.
Once the platform is established, systematic management of drones used nationwide and the collection, processing, and analysis of drone footage will become possible. This is expected to improve overall construction work efficiency.
In particular, by linking with mobile devices, results can be checked in real time on-site, enabling three-dimensional analysis and rapid decision-making.
The platform will initially be built for construction site management. Quality verification of construction status, periodic process management, safety inspections of hazardous areas, and patrols against illegal waste dumping are expected to be conducted more accurately and safely.
To ensure the successful development of the DroneWorks Platform, LH has formed a task force (TF) team. Professor Lee Seok-bae of the Department of Civil Engineering at Gyeongnam National University of Science and Technology, who has collaborated with LH since the early days of drone adoption, said, "The development of this DroneWorks Platform will serve as an opportunity to create a new model where drones, a key new technology of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, are utilized in construction site management."
