Operation of the Non-Face-to-Face Cultural Program 'Joseon’s Book Fragrance' at Sayuksin History Museum

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Dongjak-gu (Mayor Lee Chang-woo) will operate the non-face-to-face cultural program "The Scent of Joseon Books" at the Sayuksin History Museum until November.

Opened in 2010, the Sayuksin History Museum is a historical and cultural space equipped with exhibition rooms containing materials related to the Sayuksin, who lost their lives during the restoration movement of King Danjong in the Joseon Dynasty, as well as experience education rooms and video rooms.

The "2020 Sayuksin History Museum Cultural Program" titled "The Scent of Joseon Books" features experiential craft programs such as ▲hand-copying the loyalty of the Sayuksin onto old books made by traditional bookbinding methods ▲making pressed flower bookmarks using plum blossoms, symbolizing loyalty and integrity.

Any Dongjak-gu resident can apply, and 200 participants will be recruited on a first-come, first-served basis until the 16th.

Residents wishing to participate can scan the QR code at the bottom of the poster or visit the Dongjak Cultural Foundation website to apply, and participation is free of charge.

Due to the prolonged COVID-19 situation, educational materials such as traditional book and pressed flower bookmark making kits and instructional videos will be sent in advance to the homes of selected participants, and the program will be conducted as a non-face-to-face experiential education while complying with quarantine rules.

For more details, contact the Sports and Culture Division.

Additionally, the district is conducting an online library program called "A Letter to My Future Self" until the 18th.

The target audience is local residents interested in libraries, who can submit letters of 400 characters or more on topics related to COVID-19, the future, or daily life without any format restrictions.

Refer to the Dongjak-gu Integrated Library website or contact the Library Operations Team of the Dongjak Cultural Foundation for detailed information.

Selected works will be individually notified in November, and 50 selected participants will receive one book of their choice from 71 librarian-recommended books at the Dongjak-gu Public Library.

Jin-hee Cho, head of the Sports and Culture Division, said, "We hope this program will be an opportunity to revitalize residents' cultural and artistic activities, which have been subdued due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic," and added, "We encourage many interested residents to participate."

Meanwhile, the district is promoting the "Yongyang Bongjeojeong Area Tourism Attraction Project" utilizing the region's representative cultural resources. By 2022, the plan is to enhance the value of Yongyang Bongjeojeong by creating a historical and cultural space, a family park, and an observatory, establishing this area as a representative tourism and cultural belt of Dongjak-gu.
