CU to Produce Convenience Store-Based Romance Fantasy 'Audio Drama'

[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] Convenience store CU announced on the 11th that it will produce its self-made web novel "Convenient Suragan Life" as an audio drama version as well.


The audio drama "Convenient Suragan Life" is based on the web novel of the same name, created by popular author Nolma, famous for the Naver web novel Wolhajeongin, and illustrator BADegg.


The story follows CU staff member "Jo Eun," living in 2020, who time-leaps to become a Suragan maid in the Joseon Dynasty, leading to various episodes and romance. It captures the internet novel vibe popular in the early 2000s with cheesy lines and storylines.


The audio drama Convenient Suragan Life is performed by YouTuber Yoo Junho, a master of voice impersonations with 900,000 subscribers, and Dubbing Lady, a YouTuber specializing in character voices.


On CU's official Instagram, viewers can enjoy highlight lines from the web novel and emotional illustrations, while the full novel is uploaded on CU's Naver Post. The audio drama version will be uploaded in two parts on CU's official YouTube channel "CUtube" on the 14th and 19th of this month, respectively.


CU's offering of diverse content including web dramas, web novels, and audio dramas is a strategy to target the MZ generation, the main customers of convenience stores and trend leaders. CU naturally integrates into the snack culture content preferred by the MZ generation. Previously, the web novel Convenient Suragan Life recorded approximately 110,000 cumulative views within just four episodes.


Yeon Jeong-wook, head of BGF Retail's marketing team, said, "We are presenting original content aligned with trends so that customers can enjoy the CU brand itself in a fun way," adding, "Going forward, CU will continue to develop various content so that customers can have diverse and enjoyable experiences not only at offline CU stores but also online CU."
