[Asia Economy Reporter Nahana] The People Power Party has labeled the Lime and Optimus fund scandals, which involve allegations of connections with ruling party figures, as a "power-type gate" and urged the prosecution to conduct a fair investigation.
Kim Ye-ryeong, spokesperson for the People Power Party, emphasized in a written statement, "The prosecution must consider not only a thorough and fair investigation that the public can accept but also the independence of the investigative team."
He pointed out, "The prosecution quietly suppressed decisive evidence and testimonies," adding, "Despite ongoing power-type corruption gates such as the Ulsan mayoral election involving Blue House intervention, no punishment has been carried out."
He further criticized, "The reality of the massive power-type corruption of the Moon Jae-in administration, reeking of corruption, is like watching a crime movie."
Spokesperson Kim urged the prosecution, "I hope the prosecution reflects on its fundamental mission and role as a representative of public interest to eradicate corruption and uphold human rights."
Professor Kim Geun-sik, chairman of the Songpa-byeong district party committee of the People Power Party, also wrote on Facebook, "The prosecution is forcibly blocking the opening of the power-type gate at this stage," and said, "Just as the Choi Soon-sil tablet PC led to impeachment, we will watch how far this goes."
Meanwhile, as the investigation into the Optimus Asset Management fund fraud case expands to include suspicions of lobbying involving the power elite and politicians, attention is focusing on the roles of influential figures who served as advisors. Controversy is growing as more than 20 political and government officials are mentioned in the suspected lobbying documents.
