[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] There is an analysis highlighting that Shopify (SHOPIFY·SHOP US) is evolving from a solution for DTC (Direct-to-Consumer) channels into a comprehensive operating system for the distribution industry.

Shopify is a cloud-based (SaaS) e-commerce platform that provides solutions for building online shopping malls. It is easy to use even for non-experts, making it a potential customer for anyone from individual entrepreneurs to large corporations who want their own online shopping mall.

On the 9th, Han Jugi, a researcher at Samsung Securities, stated in a report, “Although the e-commerce market, which has grown centered on marketplaces, is shifting its focus to DTC, the distribution paradigm is changing, creating a need to manage not only proprietary brand shopping malls (DTC channels) but also marketplaces, SNS platforms, offline stores, and all other channels.” He explained, “This is the background behind Shopify becoming the trend by integrating multiple channels into a single unified platform.”

He also emphasized the importance of noting Shopify’s evolution into a comprehensive operating system for the distribution industry. Researcher Han said, “Shopify is evolving into an operating system for distribution by providing comprehensive solutions ranging from payment systems, financing, delivery, POS, to fulfillment services.” He added, “Recently, it has expanded its ecosystem by forming partnerships with SNS platforms and is broadening its customer base to include large corporations and overseas markets.”

However, intensified competition with existing players and large corporations, the possibility of a global economic slowdown, deceleration in overseas market expansion, and high valuation were pointed out as risks.
