[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Jiwon] Over the past four years, more than 35,000 defect complaints have been received from public housing supplied by the government. Among the complaints, 'poor wallpapering' was the most frequent.
According to the 'Defect Complaint Occurrence Status' submitted by the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH) to Park Sanghyuk, a member of the National Assembly Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee from the Democratic Party of Korea, a total of 35,778 defect complaints were raised during the four years from 2016 to 2019.
The main causes of defects were 'wallpapering' with 9,572 cases, followed by ▲tiles (9,458 cases) ▲sewage issues (8,966 cases) ▲sanitary fixtures (4,134 cases) ▲windows and doors (1,503 cases) ▲furniture (1,266 cases).
Recently, defects related to 'apartment cracks' have also increased, with 86 cases reported last year alone.
However, the number of defect complaints for apartments supplied by LH has been decreasing, from 11,661 cases in 2016 to 10,399 in 2017, 7,412 in 2018, and 6,306 in 2019.
The ratio of defect complaints to the total rental housing managed by LH has also gradually declined, from 1.23% in 2016 to 1.00% in 2017, 0.66% in 2018, and 0.52% in 2019.
Assemblyman Park emphasized, "There are still many defect complaints occurring in apartments supplied by LH. LH must thoroughly inspect to reduce defects and actively carry out repairs so that residents can live without inconvenience."
Regarding this, LH stated, "We will analyze the causes of defects at each stage of the construction process, including design, construction, and post-management, and strive for prevention. We will also work to secure quality that meets public expectations by advancing quality management and innovating the quality inspection system at the completion stage."
