AI Identifies Real Buyers: "No More Sneaky Ads" Yoon Tae-seok, CEO of Indent Corporation (first from the left), is discussing work with employees.

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheolhyun] There is a startup gaining attention as an effective technology to solve the controversial issue of "hidden advertisements," where popular influencers secretly conceal advertising or sponsorships and film videos as if they personally purchased or used the products. This startup is Indent Corporation, which developed the AI-based video review service "VReview."

The company was recognized for helping eradicate fake reviews and boosting corporate sales amid the rise of contactless consumption due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Recently, it won the grand prize at the "2020 Contactless Business Challenge" hosted by the Seoul Regional Small and Medium Business Administration.

Yoon Taeseok, CEO of Indent Corporation, stated, "We have also filed a patent for consumer real-purchase verification technology using AI to eradicate hidden advertisements, and we are striving to advance the service."

Indent Corporation's VReview is a service that collects video reviews through its patented AI chatbot technology and helps companies utilize them. By using the AI chatbot, customers can write reviews directly in the chat window. All video reviews collected this way are only from consumers who actually purchased the products, making it an effective solution to eradicate hidden advertisements, according to Indent Corporation.

CEO Yoon introduced, "Based on the idea that if the value of consumer review video content directly linked to commerce can be properly rewarded, hidden advertisements might be reduced, we are expanding the service." To this end, they recently launched "My VReview," a service that provides reward points when users upload video reviews.

CEO Yoon introduced this service because he confirmed the influence of videos in the market while working in the e-commerce industry for over ten years. He said, "Despite the market growth, I was concerned that real-purchaser video reviews were not being effectively utilized, so I created VReview in 2018 as a solution."

Indent Corporation provides video review utilization solutions, which require technology, development costs, and maintenance expenses, as enterprise software services. CEO Yoon explained that by adopting this, a virtuous cycle can be established where real-purchaser video reviews are activated, leading to rational consumption and increased sales. Commerce platforms can easily utilize video reviews, and consumers can make purchases based on trust by viewing reviews posted by actual buyers.

The achievements of VReview have already been confirmed. Within one year and six months of service, the cumulative views of purchase review videos reached 300 million, and more than 1,600 shopping malls have adopted VReview. Additionally, the number of VReview chatbot users surpassed 5 million as of the end of last month. Making it easy for anyone to create and upload video reviews in a familiar environment was key to this success.

CEO Yoon said, "Writing video reviews through existing web pages requires many inconveniences, so we are helping real consumers upload video reviews more easily by utilizing various technologies such as chatbots."

CEO Yoon is not satisfied with these achievements and is looking at a bigger market. Starting next year, they plan to officially launch the service sequentially in North America, Southeast Asia, and Europe. CEO Yoon said, "One of the major features of VReview is that it was developed targeting the global market," adding, "Any e-commerce platform worldwide can communicate with VReview."

Furthermore, Indent Corporation is preparing for the post-COVID era, where contactless consumption is greatly increasing. Considering that increased e-commerce consumption may lead to more consumer failures and dissatisfaction, they are focusing on advancing the service.

CEO Yoon emphasized, "We are striving to reduce consumer failures by providing consumers with a sufficient amount of vivid real-purchaser video reviews and to build a more trustworthy commerce ecosystem," adding, "We plan to grow as a service that does not compromise the value of trust to establish a healthy commerce ecosystem."
