Hankook Tire Receives 'Excellence' Rating at Global J2A Awards

[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] Hankook Tire & Technology (hereinafter Hankook Tire) announced on the 6th that it received an excellent evaluation at the global tire industry's most prestigious awards ceremony, the 'Journey to Automation Award.'

The 'Journey to Automation (J2A) Award' is an awards ceremony hosted by the European Rubber Journal, aimed at recognizing tire companies' efforts in automation and digital transformation. Hankook Tire is the only Asian company to receive an excellent evaluation in this award.

Hankook Tire received high praise in the tire manufacturing-producer category of this award for its tire compound property prediction model VCD (Virtual Compound Design) system, which utilizes artificial intelligence (AI).

The VCD system analyzes pre-accumulated data using AI technology to predict the characteristics of compounds, enabling the creation of optimal compound formulations without conducting actual tests. In particular, it is expected to reduce the compound development period, which previously took from as short as six months to as long as three years, by up to 50%.

Hankook Tire began developing this system in 2015 and signed a future technology research agreement with KAIST last year to conduct joint research. Additionally, to store and analyze vast amounts of data, it introduced Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud platform. Through this, the VCD system's data analysis accuracy has increased to over 95%.

Moreover, Hankook Tire continues various efforts to lead digital transformation, the core driving force of the 4th Industrial Revolution. In April last year, it signed an agreement with KAIST to establish the 'Digital Future Innovation Center' for joint future technology research. It is accelerating the establishment of smart factories by introducing automated inspection systems combining AI technology and digital sensors, and developing the equipment anomaly detection and prediction system 'CMS+' utilizing AI and Internet of Things technologies.
