[Asia Economy Reporter Byunghee Park] Kukje Gallery announced on the 5th that it will participate in the 2nd Frieze Viewing Room, held online for a week starting October 9.
The Frieze Viewing Room is a digital exhibition platform first introduced in May by the world-renowned art fair, Frieze Art Fair.
The 2nd Frieze Viewing Room will feature over 250 galleries worldwide and offer unique experiences through online content such as live chat, social networking services (SNS), digital guestbooks, and augmented reality (AR). Additionally, there will be sections such as 'Focus,' introducing emerging galleries; 'Possessions,' highlighting spirituality in contemporary art; and 'Spotlight,' showcasing solo exhibitions of 20th-century art masters. The Frieze Viewing Room is accessible via the official website and mobile application, with a VIP preview taking place from October 7.
Kukje Gallery will present works by diverse contemporary artists from Korea and abroad at the Frieze Viewing Room. Notably, it will showcase Choi Wookkyung’s bold brushstrokes in "The Raven of Death and Resurrection (1975)," who pursued an independent artistic practice outside the mainstream context of Korean contemporary art history; Kim Yongik’s series of dots and blank spaces in "Ddaengddaengi Painting Untitled (1990)," continuing a postmodernist approach to painting in Korean art history; and Min Jeonggi’s "View of Oksoonbong Peak from Dungjibong Peak (2007)," which deals with topographical elements such as mountain and water landscapes and the traces of humans permeating them.
Among international artists, the Danish trio artist group Superflex will present the large-scale installation "Dive-In (2019)," modeled after a drive-in movie theater. This work was first exhibited at the installation art biennale "Desert X (2019)" held in the Coachella Valley desert area of California, USA. As part of the ongoing three-year research project "Deep Sea Minding," which combines artistic and scientific research, it proposes new understandings and perspectives on marine life while imagining and planning for our future lives affected by climate change. Additionally, the gallery will introduce Australian contemporary artist Daniel Boyd’s intense painting "Untitled (YWSITPIACLDTL·2019)," who has consistently reinterpreted Australian history from new perspectives.
Meanwhile, Kukje Gallery is currently exhibiting the solo exhibition "Candida Hofer" by the world-renowned German artist Candida Hofer, who has expanded the horizons of contemporary photography, at its Busan branch until November 8.
