Busan University of Science and Technology Innovates with Establishment of 8 New Departments Including Dental Technology and One-Person Media Studies

Reorganization of Existing Five Departments Including Robot & Drone Production for the 4th Industrial Revolution Response

Busan University of Science and Technology Innovates with Establishment of 8 New Departments Including Dental Technology and One-Person Media Studies Status of Newly Established and Reorganized Departments at Busan Institute of Science and Technology for the 2021 Academic Year.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Busan Institute of Science and Technology (President Kang Ki-seong) has embarked on a major university innovation through the establishment and reorganization of departments in response to rapidly changing times.

On the 5th, Busan Institute of Science and Technology announced that it will significantly establish eight new departments, including Intelligent Mobility, Healthcare Medical Devices, Disaster Safety Systems, and Dental Technology, to respond to rapid socio-economic structural changes such as the 4th Industrial Revolution and the 100-year lifespan era.

In addition, the university is promoting university education innovation by reorganizing five existing departments, including Robotics & Drone Production (formerly Smart Electronics), Computer Software (formerly Computer Information), and Eco-friendly Architecture (formerly Architecture).

The background of the large-scale establishment and reorganization of departments is due to the rapid growth of the healthcare industry centered on the 4th Industrial Revolution.

The university explained that it also prepared for the rapid growth of future-leading industries such as the mobility industry revolution due to changes in personal mobility devices like autonomous vehicles and drones, as well as the super-aged society represented by the 100-year lifespan era.

In fact, leading domestic companies such as Samsung Electronics and Hyundai Motor Company have designated next-generation automobiles and mobility industries based on hydrogen electricity, as well as smart mobile devices, 5G, and artificial intelligence, as promising future industries to lead the Korean economy and are making large-scale investments.

The newly established and reorganized departments at Busan Institute of Science and Technology, such as Intelligent Mobility, Healthcare Medical Devices, Robotics & Drone Production, and Computer Software, correspond to these industrial structural changes, and the university plans to focus on cultivating specialized personnel along with curriculum reorganization.

In particular, the reorganized Eco-friendly Architecture and Disaster Safety Systems departments, which have gained new attention due to global warming, climate change, and environmental pollution, are noteworthy as next-generation promising departments.

Departments such as Funeral Administration and Welfare, One-person Media, and Dental Technology, which respond to lifelong learning and lifelong career structure changes due to the advent of a super-aged society, are expected to be popular not only among young adults entering society but also adult learners preparing for a second life.

President Kang Ki-seong said, “We are creating innovation in university education for future value creation through the establishment and reorganization of departments and corporate-customized curriculum reorganization to respond to rapidly changing socio-economic changes.”

President Kang added, “We are putting all our efforts into nurturing well-rounded professionals equipped with creativity and imagination, as well as fulfilling the university’s social responsibilities.”
