[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Samryung Corporation is showing strong performance. It appears to be influenced by Korea McDonald's announcement to reduce plastic use and adopt eco-friendly packaging materials.
As of 10:42 AM on the 5th, Samryung Corporation was trading at 9,440 KRW, up 3.74% (340 KRW) compared to the previous trading day.
Korea McDonald's announced on the same day under the slogan "Small but Big Changes for a Better World" that by 2025, all packaging will be converted to eco-friendly materials and all beverages will be served with lids that allow drinking without straws. McDonald's plans to reduce plastic use by 2025 and switch all packaging to recyclable or reusable materials. Additionally, the inks used in packaging will be replaced with natural inks. Along with this, lids that enable drinking without plastic straws will be introduced, and customers will be encouraged to refrain from using straws.
Samryung Corporation's wholly owned subsidiary, SR Technopack, produces plastic containers and infusion films. The products developed by this company feature functional films with oxygen barrier properties three times better than previous products. Although the oxygen barrier rate is high, the material's drawback of polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH) dissolving in hot water has been addressed. Additionally, they produce a recyclable oxygen barrier coating film called 'GB-8.' Unlike conventional packaging containers, this film can be recycled without requiring consumers to separate waste.
