[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The 'Busan World Citizens Festival,' the largest multicultural festival in Busan celebrating its 15th anniversary, will be held online this year.

Busan City and the Busan International Exchange Foundation announced on the 5th that this festival, which will present a new paradigm for multicultural festivals amid COVID-19, will be held online on a website for one month starting from the 11th, with participation from about 35 organizations including foreign embassies in Korea and foreign communities in the Busan area.

Visitors can experience national exhibits such as traditional costumes, musical instruments, and props in VR (3D), and watch videos of foreign traditional performances and cuisine.

The festival officially opens with an online opening ceremony at 2 p.m. on the 11th. The ceremony will proceed in the following order: congratulatory remarks by Byeon Seong-wan, Acting Mayor of Busan, and Mohamed El Amin Deraghi, Algerian Ambassador to Korea; introduction of the festival’s vision and goals by the foundation’s Secretary-General; introduction of the 15th Busan World Citizens Festival online platform by famous travel YouTuber from Busan, Gwak Tube; and the inauguration ceremony of the ‘100 World Citizens Group.’

The ‘100 World Citizens Group of Busan,’ composed of general citizens, foreigners, and international students residing in Busan, will start activities to bridge racial and cultural gaps and create a ‘livable glocal city Busan’ through this festival.

Jeon Hye-sook, Director of the Women and Family Bureau of Busan City, said, “Despite the unprecedented COVID-19 situation, we have overcome many difficulties to hold the 15th Busan World Citizens Festival, so we hope everyone enjoys the non-face-to-face festival and programs of harmony.”
