Seongbuk-gu Dementia Relief Center Promotes Care for Dementia Seniors Using AI Speakers

[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) Dementia Safety Center provides an ‘Artificial Intelligence (AI) Care Service’ using AI speakers to case management subjects in the area.

Even in the non-face-to-face situation caused by COVID-19, a system enabling cognitive training and care has been established, creating an opportunity to further improve the dementia registration management project.

Since September 21, the district has been distributing AI speakers free of charge to case management subjects residing in Seongbuk-gu who are registered at the center.

The distributed AI speakers offer basic services such as emotional conversation and radio, as well as AI speaker-exclusive emergency SOS and the dementia prevention program ‘Duneu Toktok’.

When the subject commands, “Aria, start Duneu Toktok,” the program begins. Then, they can strengthen cognitive abilities by solving various quizzes. The dates and records of quiz completion are managed as statistical data.

In an emergency, if the subject shouts, “Aria, save me,” after voice recognition, personal information is sent to the guardian and the ADT center. If an emergency is recognized after a call attempt, 119 is immediately notified and dispatched.

If a full announcement is needed, a voice broadcast function can simultaneously deliver guidance messages to all users of the speaker, making it convenient. Additionally, it is possible to confirm whether the message has been listened to.

Due to COVID-19 making visits to the Dementia Safety Center difficult, various non-face-to-face services are easily provided through the use of the AI speaker program at home. It is expected to be effective in overall care including cognitive ability enhancement, health management, emergency rescue, implementation of a data-based safety care system through big data analysis, emotional care, cognitive training, and message delivery.

Seongbuk-gu Dementia Safety Center also operates various projects such as early dementia screening, dementia-safe villages, Memory Friends, customized case management, Memory Care School (shelter), dementia prevention and cognitive rehabilitation programs, support for dementia treatment costs and cause confirmation test fees, family meetings and self-help groups, dementia specialist volunteer groups, wandering rescue services, and support for care supplies.
