Cho Sang-yeol, CEO of Daedong Cultural Foundation (Korean Culture), and Kim Kwang-eon, Professor Emeritus at Inha University (Academics), will receive the Sejong Cultural Award. On the 4th, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced that the two individuals, along with Nguyen Van Thinh, Visiting Professor at the Vietnam National Institute of Culture and Arts (International Cultural Exchange), and the Asia Human Rights and Culture Solidarity (Cultural Diversity), were selected as recipients of the 39th Sejong Cultural Award.

The Sejong Cultural Award is a presidential citation established in 1982 to honor the achievements of King Sejong and to inherit his creative spirit. It is awarded to individuals and organizations who have made significant contributions in various fields, including the promotion of Korean culture. The award ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. on the 8th at the National Hangeul Museum.

CEO Cho has been publishing the traditional culture magazine Daedong Munhwa for 25 years. In 2015, he founded the Korea Cultural Heritage Keepers Association and established June 22 as "Cultural Heritage Keepers Day." A Ministry of Culture official explained, “Since 1995, he has conducted about 2,000 nationwide cultural heritage explorations and approximately 1,200 history and humanities lectures, contributing to the public promotion and expansion of traditional culture.”

Professor Kim served as a cultural heritage expert and director of the National Folk Museum, working to preserve and promote Korean culture. His representative works include The Latrine of East Asia, The Kitchen of East Asia, and Plow Research. A Ministry of Culture official stated, “He pioneered fields untouched by scholars in Korea, China, and Japan, while exploring the excellence of our culture in East Asia.”

Professor Nguyen Van Thinh worked for about 30 years at the Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, healing the wounds of the Vietnam War for locals and alleviating anti-Korean sentiment. He is credited with advancing cultural exchange between the two countries by promoting the establishment of the Korean Cultural Center in Vietnam and the Vietnam office of the Copyright Commission.

The Asia Human Rights and Culture Solidarity is a civil society organization established in 2000. Through migrant support and educational organization activities, intercultural education, and community integration promotion, it has provided opportunities for local residents to communicate and interact. A Ministry of Culture official praised, “It has played a significant role in protecting migrants’ rights and promoting cultural diversity in Korean society.”

The Hangeul Development Merit Awards and commendations, given to those dedicated to the development and dissemination of Hangeul and the Korean language, will be awarded to ten individuals.
