[Asia Economy Reporter Hana Na] Jang Kyung-tae, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, announced on the 4th that he will run for the party's National Youth Committee Chair election.

On the morning of the same day, Jang held a press conference at the National Assembly Communication Office and expressed his ambition, saying, "Youth politics has only just begun to sprout; it needs to take deeper root."

He also said, "Just as I have kept my promises over the past two years to make the party younger and stronger, I will now work beyond the party to build a Korea where youth are empowered."

Jang announced that he will propose the "Youth Housing Stability Special Act," which prioritizes 70% of public rental housing for young people and allocates 50% of national housing sales to youth through special supply. This bill includes provisions to apply preferential rates for Loan-to-Value (LTV) and Debt-to-Income (DTI) ratios.

In addition, he presented seven major pledges, including ▲establishing honorary youth National Assembly members and a youth parliamentary system ▲promoting 'support committees' for local council candidates ▲implementing mandatory youth nominations in all constituencies ▲creating a youth affairs office ▲ensuring 10% youth representation in government-affiliated committees ▲setting up a youth Corruption Investigation Office task force ▲and establishing a youth New Deal committee.

He added, "I will remove political entry barriers so that any young person dreaming of politics can challenge themselves and create a 'Democratic Party strong in youth.'"

Jang previously served as the university student committee chair and youth committee chair within the Democratic Party and was elected to the National Assembly as a first-term lawmaker after running in Dongdaemun-eul, Seoul, in the last general election. During his tenure as National Youth Committee Chair, he was credited with revitalizing youth political activities by establishing the Youth Political Development Fund.

The Democratic Party's National Committee Chair election is scheduled to take place on July 9-10.
