[Correspondent Diary] China Surprises Japan, Senkaku Issue Publicized During National Day Holiday

'Daowidao Digital Museum' Opens... Historical Materials from Ming and Cheong Dynasties Revealed
China Warns "Possesses Regional Order Maintenance Capability Trampled by Japan"

[Asia Economy Beijing=Special Correspondent Jo Young-shin] China shares borders with 14 countries. The length of its border exceeds 22,000 km. Across the sea, it is adjacent to 6 countries. This is why border disputes and maritime sovereignty conflicts frequently occur.

China has brought to public attention the sovereignty issue of the Senkaku Islands (Chinese name: Diaoyudao), which had been dormant for some time. During the National Day holiday, it unexpectedly opened the "Diaoyudao Digital Museum."

China's state-run Xinhua News Agency and Global Times reported on the 3rd about the opening of the Diaoyudao Digital Museum, asserting that territorial sovereignty belongs to China.

The Diaoyudao Digital Museum emphasizes China's historical grounds. It presented historical records showing that the name "Diaoyudao" was first used during the reign of the Yongle Emperor of the Ming Dynasty in 1403.

Documents from the Qing Dynasty era, which managed Diaoyudao, were also disclosed. Historical materials (maps) published in 1579 and 1629, indicating that Diaoyudao was included in Chinese territory, were exhibited.

Regarding Japan's claim to the Senkaku territory, it was stated that Japan slyly incorporated it into their territory during the Sino-Japanese War (Treaty of Shimonoseki).

In particular, after World War II, according to the Cairo Declaration and Potsdam Declaration, Diaoyudao and other affiliated islands were returned to China, but the United States arbitrarily transferred jurisdiction over Diaoyudao to Japan in 1952, openly expressing displeasure toward the U.S.

Xinhua News Agency emphasized the significance of the opening of the Diaoyudao Digital Museum by stating that it confirms the geographical and historical grounds of Diaoyudao belong to China and that sovereignty over Diaoyudao lies with China.

China is experiencing sharp conflicts with the United States over issues such as the Hong Kong National Security Law, Taiwan and Xinjiang Uyghur independence, South China Sea sovereignty, and border disputes with India. In other words, conflicts surround China from all directions.

Some speculate that if the Diaoyudao issue, which is in dispute with Japan, is further highlighted, China could find itself in a dire situation, and thus it is expected that China would not bring the Diaoyudao issue to the surface for the time being.

However, China caught Japan off guard. During the National Day holiday, it opened the Diaoyudao Digital Museum, publicizing the territorial dispute with Japan.

The Diaoyudao Digital Museum stated, "No matter what measures Japan takes, the Diaoyudao Islands are Chinese territory," and asserted, "China has the capability to maintain order and peace in the region trampled by Japan."

China's voice is growing louder, not only in military power but also in economic strength.
