[Asia Economy Reporter Nah Hana] Yang Hyang-ja, a Supreme Council Member of the Democratic Party of Korea, strongly criticized the ruling party and those holding them accountable over the North Korean shooting death of a government official, calling them "hoksse-mumin (惑世誣民)"?a term meaning to mislead or deceive the public.

On the 3rd, Yang wrote on her Facebook, "Even if he is called a defector to the North, there are North Korean forces who shot an unarmed civilian, and there are forces attacking the President and government of the Republic of Korea, saying what did they do without risking full-scale armed conflict to save that defector," adding, "These two groups are essentially the same kind of hoksse-mumin."

She continued, "Both similar groups are unacceptable and should be rejected," and pointed out, "The opposition party continues political strife by changing their stance to say they cannot believe it even though they acknowledged the circumstances of defection."

Furthermore, she asserted the deceased official was a "defector to the North" and argued that military mobilization to save a defector is impossible, asking, "Are you saying we should risk war because of defection?"

She added, "The shooting of an unarmed civilian by (North Korean) forces cannot be justified by any words," and said, "However, that does not mean we must endure military retaliation for the sake of a defector. That is a response no different from the North."

Yang concluded, "The remains of the deceased should be sent to the family quickly, and efforts should be focused on uncovering the truth," urging, "Leave the outdated North Korea scare tactics to the United Future Party."
