[Asia Economy Reporter Wondara] The Democratic Party of Korea emphasized in a statement released for Chuseok and Armed Forces Day that the Yeonpyeong Island civil servant shooting incident should not be used as a political battleground. The People Power Party continued their offensive, saying, "The government turns a blind eye even when our people are trampled by North Korea."
Heo Young, spokesperson for the Democratic Party, said in a briefing on the 1st, "There is a prediction that the number of people returning home during the Chuseok holiday will decrease by nearly 30%. Many self-employed and small business owners are at a crossroads of survival, and countless families are worried about tomorrow after a hard day."
He added, "This is not the time for politics to stir up misguided beliefs and shake the quarantine system," and emphasized, "It is especially not the time to use national security issues as tools for political strife based solely on political calculations. We will firmly respond without yielding to any attempts to disrupt national security."
Kim Byung-joo, security spokesperson for the Democratic Party, also issued a statement saying, "The united heart of the people is the greatest security," and stressed, "The recent tragic and unfortunate shooting incident involving the missing civil servant from Yeonpyeong Island should no longer be used as a tool for political strife rather than a security issue."
He said, "The strength supporting a strong military is the trust of the people," and added, "The Moon Jae-in administration and the Democratic Party will build a strong military and robust security so that the clock of peace on the Korean Peninsula can return to normal."
The People Power Party continued their criticism regarding the shooting incident, allegations of preferential treatment in military service for the son of Justice Minister Choo Mi-ae, and real estate policies.
Kim Eun-hye, spokesperson for the People Power Party, said, "This Chuseok feels heavier than ever," and criticized, "Due to a government that turns a blind eye even when our people are trampled by North Korea, the public feels anxious that the government cannot protect our lives and safety."
She continued, "Even though there is clear evidence, the regime blatantly grants immunity to those in power, which angers the people," and pointed out, "People cannot buy or sell houses. If they have a house, they face a tax bomb; if not, their livelihoods collapse. The common people feel disheartened in a world that is becoming poorer and more divided."
She added, "We cannot just stand by and watch the Moon Jae-in administration's failures any longer," and promised, "Through the upcoming National Assembly audit, we will not only clearly expose the government's failures but also present healthy and progressive alternatives."
