[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] The Central Disease Control Headquarters announced that as of midnight on Chuseok Day, the 1st, there were 77 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in South Korea, bringing the total to 23,889.

Of the 77 cases, 67 were locally transmitted and 10 were imported from overseas.

The daily new confirmed cases had maintained double digits for four consecutive days from the 26th to the 29th of last month, then increased again to the low 100s the day before, but dropped back to double digits after just one day.

Looking at the recent trend of new confirmed cases, from the 3rd to the 19th of last month, the number stayed in the 100s for 17 consecutive days, after which the daily counts were 82 → 70 → 61 → 110 → 125 → 114 → 61 → 95 → 50 → 38 → 113 → 77, fluctuating around 100.

Domestic new confirmed cases surged to the 400s at one point after cluster infections in the metropolitan area intensified in mid-August, then gradually decreased through the 300s, 200s, and 100s.
