[Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Jae-hee] The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has completed verification work at two undeclared Iranian facilities suspected of nuclear activities.

According to AFP on the 30th (local time), the IAEA announced that it collected environmental samples from the second facility suspected of undeclared nuclear activities dating back to the early 2000s.

This follows Iran's announcement at the end of last month that it would allow access to the two facilities designated by the IAEA.

The verification of the first of the two facilities was conducted earlier this month.

Previously, the IAEA adopted a Board of Governors resolution in June urging Iran to take a proactive stance after Iran refused to allow verification of the facility earlier this year.

The IAEA has been monitoring Iran's nuclear activities under the Iran nuclear deal (JCPOA - Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action) signed in 2015 by Iran and six other countries including the United States.

However, the United States, under the Donald Trump administration, which distrusted Iran, unilaterally withdrew from the nuclear agreement in 2018, and recently officially requested the United Nations Security Council to restore sanctions on Iran through the snapback procedure stipulated in the nuclear deal, provoking Iran's opposition.
