Jeonbuk 326 cases, Gyeonggi 225 cases, Incheon 213 cases, etc.
[Asia Economy Reporter Jin-gyu Lee] The number of people who received influenza (flu) vaccines suspected of being exposed to room temperature during distribution has increased to over 1,300.
The Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDCA) announced on the 30th, through reference materials related to the influenza vaccination project, that "As of the 28th, the number of government-procured vaccine doses under investigation for room temperature exposure administered is 1,362 cases (persons)."
The vaccinated individuals are spread across 15 cities and provinces nationwide. This is an increase of 489 people compared to the 873 reported by the KDCA the previous day.
By region, the numbers are as follows: Jeonbuk 326 cases, Gyeonggi 225 cases, Incheon 213 cases, Gyeongbuk 148 cases, Busan 109 cases, Chungnam 74 cases, Seoul 70 cases, Sejong 51 cases, Daegu 46 cases, Gwangju 40 cases, Jeonnam 31 cases, Daejeon and Gyeongnam 10 cases each, Jeju 8 cases, and Chungbuk 1 case.
The KDCA had stated on the 22nd that there were no vaccinated individuals with the affected vaccine, but since the 25th, the numbers have risen as follows: 105 → 224 → 324 → 407 → 873 → 1,362.
The KDCA confirmed that Shinseong Pharmaceutical violated the 'cold chain' principle during the delivery of the flu vaccines by leaving the refrigerated truck door open or placing products on the floor, and consequently suspended the national vaccination program on the 21st. The total amount of vaccine doses currently suspended due to suspected room temperature exposure is 5.78 million doses.
