[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Seo Yang-ho, Mayor of Jung-gu, Seoul, visited Myeongdong on the morning of the 29th with Xing Haiming, Chinese Ambassador to Korea, ahead of Chuseok.

This visit was to encourage and support Myeongdong merchants who are struggling due to a significant decrease in foreign tourists caused by COVID-19. Ambassador Xing and his wife also accompanied the visit, bringing gifts to convey the message of overcoming this crisis together.

Mayor Seo and Ambassador Xing visited cosmetic stores, clothing shops, and nearby restaurants in the Myeongdong area, delivering messages of comfort and support to the merchants.

Around this time, Myeongdong usually experiences a peak season as the Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays overlap, attracting numerous tourists. However, due to the adverse effects of COVID-19, Myeongdong merchants are continuing their businesses with great difficulty in a challenging situation.

Ambassador Xing expressed hope that his visit would be a source of strength for the Myeongdong merchants facing hardships during Chuseok.

Seo Yang-ho, Mayor of Jung-gu, said, "I thank the merchants for actively cooperating with COVID-19 prevention efforts despite the difficulties, and the district office will explore various measures to restore the Myeongdong commercial district to normal as soon as possible."
