[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] Park Neung-hoo, the first deputy head of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters (CDSCH), stated on the 30th regarding the domestic situation of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) that "the number of daily confirmed cases (locally transmitted) in the country has remained in double digits for six consecutive days."

Before the CDSCH meeting held at the Government Seoul Office on the same day, Deputy Head Park mentioned, "Cluster outbreaks continue in multi-use facilities such as elderly care facilities, medical institutions, saunas where masks cannot be worn, and restaurants, so we cannot afford to lower our guard."

He explained, "The average daily confirmed cases in the past week were 75.6, which is about 32 fewer than the previous week's 107.4. The number of patients currently isolated for treatment is around 1,800, of which about 44% are seniors aged 60 and above."

The daily new confirmed COVID-19 cases from the 25th to the 29th were 114, 61, 95, 50, and 38 respectively, and among these, locally transmitted cases were 95, 49, 73, 40, and 23.

Deputy Head Park emphasized, "Whether COVID-19 experiences a fall resurgence depends on how we spend this Chuseok holiday," adding, "Whether the infection, centered in the metropolitan area, will spread nationwide again or whether we can return to the awaited normal life depends on the actions of all of us." He urged, "For this Chuseok, the participation and cooperation of the public are crucial to protect the health of families and the safety of the community from COVID-19," and requested, "Instead of visiting hometowns or traveling, please enjoy cultural activities at home with your family or use quiet neighborhood parks."

On the same day, the CDSCH reviewed the blood supply situation in preparation for the Chuseok holiday and the readiness for the enforcement of the recently revised Infectious Disease Prevention Act.

Deputy Head Park said, "We will thoroughly prepare for emergencies such as blood shortages during the holiday period and ensure that legal amendments, including fines for violations of quarantine guidelines, are applied smoothly on the ground."
