[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is scheduled to visit South Korea for a one-night, two-day trip on the 7th and 8th, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on the 30th.

This visit marks Pompeo's fourth trip to South Korea since taking office in 2018, including trips accompanying President Donald Trump.

On the morning of the 8th, Minister Kang will hold talks with Secretary Pompeo to broadly exchange views on Korea-U.S. relations, the situation on the Korean Peninsula, and regional and global issues.

This foreign ministers' meeting is the third face-to-face meeting between Minister Kang and Secretary Pompeo this year. Despite difficulties in in-person diplomacy due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the two ministers have frequently communicated through phone calls and a video conference of foreign ministers from seven countries responding to COVID-19.

An official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained, "In addition to recent close strategic communication at various levels between Korea and the U.S., Secretary Pompeo's visit is expected to deepen cooperation between the two countries on Korean Peninsula, regional, and global issues, while further advancing the Korea-U.S. alliance."
