[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Suwan] Park Neunghoo, the first deputy head of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters (CDSCH), stated on the 30th regarding the domestic spread of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), "The number of daily confirmed cases in the country has remained in double digits for six consecutive days."
Before the CDSCH meeting held at the Government Seoul Office on the same day, Deputy Head Park mentioned, "Cluster outbreaks continue in multi-use facilities such as elderly care facilities, medical institutions, saunas where masks cannot be worn, and restaurants, so we cannot afford to lower our guard."
He explained, "The average daily confirmed cases in the past week were 75.6, a decrease of about 32 compared to 107.4 in the previous week. The number of patients isolated for treatment has reached about 1,800, of which approximately 44% are seniors aged 60 and above."
Although the official statistics from the Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) have not yet been released, the number of locally transmitted confirmed cases is expected to remain in double digits today as well.
Regarding COVID-19 prevention during the Chuseok holiday, Deputy Head Park emphasized, "Whether there will be a fall outbreak of COVID-19 depends on how we spend this Chuseok holiday," adding, "Whether the infection, currently centered in the metropolitan area, will spread nationwide again or whether we can return to the awaited normal life depends on the actions of all of us."
He urged, "This Chuseok, more than ever, the participation and cooperation of the public are crucial to protect the health of families and the safety of the community from COVID-19," and requested, "Instead of visiting hometowns or traveling, please enjoy cultural activities at home with your family or use quiet neighborhood parks."
