Global 'Seasoning Company' Hosts University Competition to "Overcome Corona" Students from the Hotel and Culinary Department at Gyeongnam Information College are posing for a commemorative photo after participating in a cooking competition organized by the global sauce company Lee Kum Kee.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] We cannot just shrink back due to COVID-19. Lee Kum Kee, a global company with a 130-year history known for developing food seasonings such as oyster sauce, held a cooking competition at Gyeongnam College of Information & Technology.

To comfort students whose classes and social activities have been restricted, the global company Lee Kum Kee held the "Lee Kum Kee Cooking Competition" for students in the Hotel and Food Service Cooking Department at this college.

The competition took place on the 24th from 6 p.m. at the campus’s 50th Anniversary Memorial Hall, lasting three hours with 30 participants from first and second-year students.

Second-year student Kim Jun-woo won the top prize, the Champion, with his dish "Duck Breast Steak with Mapo Sauce and Cream Sauce."

The Champion receives a 6-night, 7-day local tour of Lee Kum Kee’s Hong Kong headquarters and a gourmet tour package. He was also granted the right to participate in the Lee Kum Kee Korea competition.

Kim Jun-woo said, “I was able to gain valuable experience through this competition. I want to become a global chef who moves people with cooking in the future.”

Following him, first place went to Kim Min-seong, and second place to Lee Soo-bin. Medals, certificates, and scholarships were awarded.

Department head Professor Jung Sook-hee explained the background of the event, saying, “It was a time when students were very depressed due to the COVID ‘blues,’ and we were wondering how to boost morale when Lee Kum Kee made a generous proposal through Chinese cuisine master chef Seo Jeong-hee.”

Professor Jung added, “It is very meaningful that students who dream of becoming chefs have the opportunity to be motivated by a global company.”

Lee Kum Kee is a global sauce company with a 132-year history based in China and Hong Kong, and it holds various cooking competitions for culinary students in Korea.
