Lee Gae-ho, a member of the National Assembly (Democratic Party of Korea·Damyang-Hampyeong-Yeonggwang-Jangseong), announced on the 29th that through joint efforts with the four counties severely damaged by the heavy rain and typhoon in August?Damyang, Hampyeong, Yeonggwang, and Jangseong?a total of 246.4 billion won in national funds for flood damage restoration due to the special disaster area designation and 13.9 billion won in special disaster grants from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety were secured, totaling 250.3 billion won.
By region, Damyang County, which suffered the most severe damage, will receive 133.1 billion won in national funds for flood damage restoration due to the special disaster area designation and 8.4 billion won in special disaster grants from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, totaling 141.5 billion won.
Jangseong County will receive 64.2 billion won in national funds and 3.3 billion won in special disaster grants, totaling 67.5 billion won; Yeonggwang County will receive 33.9 billion won in national funds and 1.8 billion won in special disaster grants, totaling 35.7 billion won; and Hampyeong County will receive 15.2 billion won in national funds and 0.4 billion won in special disaster grants, totaling 15.6 billion won for flood damage restoration.
In addition to the national funds for flood damage restoration, special grants from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety were additionally secured to address urgent local projects in the four counties.
Among the urgent projects applied for by each county to the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the confirmed supported projects include ▲ 800 million won for the Damyang County Historical and Cultural Park bypass road construction ▲ 600 million won for the Hwangryonggang pedestrian improvement project in Jeongsang County ▲ 600 million won for the Bukmunjae to Yeonseong intersection improvement project in Yeonggwang County ▲ and four projects including the installation of an EXPO drive-in theater in Hampyeong County, totaling 2.3 billion won.
Assemblyman Lee said, “I sincerely offer my condolences to the residents who suffered severe damage due to the sudden flood in addition to the COVID-19 crisis,” adding, “Through close cooperation with the four counties, we will strive to ensure that the national funds provided this time are used promptly for flood damage restoration, and we will make every effort to prepare additional support and damage prevention measures until the flood damage is completely restored.”
