Special Strengthening of Quarantine Measures at Major Tourist Sites During Chuseok Holiday in Preparation for COVID-19
Chuseok and Hangul Day Holiday Period Marks a Turning Point for Autumn COVID Resurgence
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kang Sharon] Gyeongsangnam-do announced on the 29th that it will prepare and implement special local tourism quarantine measures for tourist sites and accommodation facilities in preparation for the increase in domestic tourists during the Chuseok holiday period.
During the Chuseok holiday period, major tourist destinations such as Tongyeong and Geoje have accommodation reservation rates exceeding 80%, with some facilities already fully booked at 100%. Accordingly, since Chuseok quarantine management could be a turning point in the autumn wave of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19), special local tourism quarantine measures have been prepared.
The province plans to form a joint inspection team with cities and counties starting from September 25 to conduct quarantine inspections on 652 locations across five sectors including major tourist sites, hotels, condos, amusement facilities, and campgrounds within the province, and complete the inspections by the 29th.
The inspections focus on compliance with core quarantine rules such as facility-specific quarantine guidelines, disinfection of facilities, preparation of visitor logs, and mask-wearing.
Additionally, to comply with the prohibition of gatherings, meetings, and events during the special Chuseok quarantine period (September 28 to October 11), major festivals such as the Namgang Yudeung Festival, Gaecheon Arts Festival, and Korea Drama Festival during the Chuseok holiday period have been canceled, and the Sancheong Herbal Medicine Festival was changed to an online format and concluded.
From September 30 to October 4, the five-day holiday period, a situation team linked with cities and counties will operate to respond to the COVID-19 situation, and the Korea Tourism Organization (Gyeongnam branch) will also provide tourist inconvenience reporting guidance to resolve any tourist complaints during this period.
Lee Jae-cheol, Director of Tourism Promotion at Gyeongsangnam-do, said, “There is a high risk that this Chuseok holiday will be a turning point for the resurgence of COVID-19. We will further strengthen quarantine rules to prevent COVID-19 so that the public can use major tourist facilities with peace of mind.”
