Shin Woo-cheol, Wando County Governor, Directly Announces Urgency and Commitment to Project
Two New Rainwater Pump Stations Established in Gunnae-ri Area, 7.2 km Pipeline Improved
[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Kyung-pil] Wando County, Jeonnam announced on the 28th that the Gunnae district in Wando was designated as a priority management area for sewerage maintenance by the Ministry of Environment.
Following the designation of the Wando-eup Gayong district (22 billion KRW) in 2014, the Gunnae district will also proceed with the sewerage maintenance project, which is expected to resolve the flooding issues in Wando-eup.
The Gunnae district is a reclaimed lowland area where seawater backflows through drainage pipes during high tide, and flooding damage has frequently occurred due to heavy rain and typhoon invasions.
To solve the flooding problem, the county started and completed a sewerage maintenance plan study in October last year, and based on this, submitted an application for designation as a priority management area to the Ministry of Environment in August.
The Ministry of Environment selected the priority management areas through a first document review, field investigation, a second selection committee, and local government announcement. On the 23rd, Wando County Governor Shin Woo-cheol personally emphasized the urgency and determination to proceed with the project at the selection committee.
The total project cost for the Gunnae district sewerage maintenance priority management project is 25.1 billion KRW, which includes the construction of two new rainwater pumping stations and the improvement of 7.2 km of pipelines in the Gunnae-ri area of Wando-eup.
Wando County plans to start the detailed design service next year and complete the construction in 2024.
A county official said, “We expect that the expansion of sewerage facilities in the Gunnae district will solve the flooding problem and improve the living environment conditions of local residents, and we will do our best to ensure the project proceeds without any setbacks.”
