Gwangju Veterans Affairs Office Holds Nameplate Ceremony for Couples Recognized as 5·18 Merit Recipients

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Gwangju Regional Veterans Affairs Office (Director Im Seonghyun) visited the couple of 5·18 Democratic Merit Awardees to hang nameplates in celebration of Chuseok.


On the 29th, the Gwangju Veterans Affairs Office announced that it visited the home of the 5·18 Democratic Merit Awardee couple, No Heegwan (86) and Song Heeseong (83), residing in Gwangju Metropolitan City, to carry out the nameplate hanging event for democratic merit awardees.


Mr. No was a professor at Chonnam National University during the 5·18 Democratic Movement and was arrested while participating in protests for academic autonomy. Ms. Song was the only couple member arrested and detained while active in the YWCA at the time, enduring hardship, making them living witnesses who shared the history of Korea's democratization.
